Dear Rhona,
How could you leave me here in Canada? Do you have any idea how bloody cold it is here. While you enjoy your plus temperatures, I woke up on Christmas morning to minus 18 C. Thank goodness that Karen was kind enough to knit me a hat and neck warmer. Plus I have found new friends that huddle around me and keep me warm. While it's cold here, I'm trying my best to fit in and be an honorary Canadian. I even went as far as going for a sleigh ride. I'm counting the days until my return in 2022. Until then, take care. Calum

As I write this Blog we are on the bus to Montreal Airport. I hear snoring all around. The 10 days of partying, curling, and drinking has taken its toll Sincere apologies for the lack of blogging these last 2 days - its been very hectic.
I plan to post quite a lot of posts in the next few days, but thought you should hear about the final day and of course the result. To minimise your agony, here is a post of the team that won the Friendship Cup last night The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Curling Club was the place for our Friday games - both morning and afternoon. We were greeted by Jeff Adam who had also agreed to play for my team - to allow Fiona a game off. Those not playing were taken around the training area to see the horses being trained, and which included visiting the arena. In the museum they saw the coach that the queen rides in when visiting Canada, and a rocking horse the queen gave the mounties, which was a present after her faithful horse Burmese, which the Mounties had given her. People can react to meeting Calum in many different ways! Interesting that the kids are a bit wary of him. On Thursday morning we played at Granite Curling Club, where Fiona and I had played once before on the 2002 Tour. We had a great reception, very good ice and games, piped to lunch, and entertained by Baseline Station Barber Shop Quartet. Then onto the Royal Canadian Navy Curling Club for our afternoon games. This is a really nice 4 sheet rink, that again had fast and curling ice, and following very competitive games we had a reception with speeches, cheese and cold meet platters - apologies for the lack of photos - I was on duty for thanking the club. Most of the Tour Party headed tonight for the Ice Hockey Stadium to support the Ottawa Senators. They won 4 - 2, although after gaining a healthy 3 - 0 lead in the first 2 sessions, they then lost 2 goals and got us pretty worried about the outcome. Izzy got her man too! Calum decided he wanted to explore some additional Canadian sport today. So early this morning he persuaded Russell that he should take him hunting in a local forest. If the Numpty Hat had been awarded today then he would have got it, because he did not manage to shoot any wild animals I have never had a Birthday Party like this one. You just go curling at North Grenville Curling Club, and it turns into a fancy dress party and karaoke, which finished with the whole tour and Canadians singing when I am 64 - very appropriate. Here are the photos which speak for themselves I am a bit concerned about some of the members of this Tour. The legalising of cannabis in Canada seems to be leading to some changes in our good friends. |
