We have moved on from Cornwall and today played at the Navan Centre, before moving to the west side of Ottawa. The teams played well and came out on top with 2 wins a draw and a loss. The draw was remarkable at 9 shots each when the Renfrewshire team only took 2 ends - a 5 and a 4!!

Calum has been pretty quiet this last 24 hours since he was found wandering the corridors of the Nav Centre.
We surmise that he is missing his lady love. Izzy took this photo, and thought he had sought consolation in a beer when he saw that Elaine's team had lost a 5. However, I think there is more to his behaviour and demeanor, and that the turning to drink is evidence that he is Lovesick! The big question is whether she will be at the final dinner!! This is Denny Charlebois 4 year old grandson - Parker, who is son of our Denny's oldest lad Jeff and his wife Brynn, whose parents are part of the MacLachlan clan. Here he is pictured at an International Camp, and it is clear to all of us that he is supporting the 12th Renfrewshire Touring Team. We love him, and hope he will perhaps get to meet Calum who would really love to meet him. and at the end of the evening Malcolm McCaskill delivered a very funny vote of thanks, which was much enjoyed, and we all went off to the Pub!
Now when you lose the Team Mascot, because you have left him in charge of your handbag, and go off chatting to other people, then there is accountability. This comes in the form of the evil Numpty Hat So most evenings when the Numpty Hat is being presented there are various contestants 'wanting' to wear it, but today there was only one person in the running - Rhona Robinson So let me put you out of your misery. Calum was found by Diane Smith's great endeavour's, apparently wandering the third floor corridor, and saying nothing about where he had been the night before. There has been huge discussion about his disappearance, and what he had been doing. As best we can tell he was last seen enjoying the company of a number of ladies and we surmise that he had an offer that he could not refuse, and spent the night in her bedroom being cuddled and pampered, and who knows what else! Needless to say, Rhona has been devastated by the whole experience. There have been many tears. When Diane Smith delivered him back to her she was overcome, and took Calum for a dance to the music of the Halloween Band. Well done Diane! Today our 6 teams returned to Cornwall Curling Club and took on 6 really strong Cornwall teams. 4 of the 6 games were really close with 2 peeled, and 1 each won and lost. Elaine Semple played 2 great skip stones to win her game, with the Canadians very complementary about the teams play. The other 2 teams struggled and lost by a bigger gap. The ice was really curling well if you threw the stone to the sweepers, but getting the right weight was not easy. Serious investigations have commenced. Unbeknown to most of the tour party, Calum has disappeared in very suspicious circumstances. Rhona Robinson is heartbroken and very worried - so she should be!! I mean we have been in Canada only one full day, and she has lost our hugely loved mascot. 350 people + are watching Calum's adventures on this Blog.
He was last seen partying in the arms of several very attractive women - see previous blog, and then NOTHING! Apparently last seen at midnight, his disappearance was not reported to the Police, and only to the Tour at 10am this morning. The investigation reveals that he did not come to bed last night, raising the suspicion that he went back to a ladies room. Alternative suggestions include a kidnapping, cannabis, or a drunken wander down the banks of the St Lawrence. Whatever the final outcome, and hopefully his body will not be found in the river, we will let you know as soon as we hear. Rhona Robinson is clearly very worried about her responsibility in the whole affair, and tonights allocation of the NUMPTY HAT. What a night we had at the NAV Centre, when our Canadian guests formally welcomed us. There was an opening speech from Diane Smith, history of the tour from Denny Charlebois, beautiful gift curling sculptures - many thanks to Sue and Jeff Cumming, a great meal, fun stuff from Jane Venus and Laura Melnick and (oh NO!) - guess who got the Numpty Hat! I really really love being here. So many people love me. I think I should become a Canadian, and live here long term. Surely I could not be happier with all these cuddles C |
